Drainage Systems Costs

March 27, 2022

We encourage homeowners to learn what drainage systems cost so they know what to expect. These effective systems prevent foundation damage and other problems. Some types of drains are installed for the purpose of re-directing relatively small amounts of water affecting a house foundation, while other drains are best for transferring larger volumes of water quickly. If you have questions, contact HD Foundations.

Calculating What Drainage Systems Cost:

Average prices in the Dallas, Fort Worth metroplex generally range between $2,000 -$4,800, but final fees are based on many different things. The cost for installing a French drain is approximately $2,000-$2,800 per each side of a house, assuming a professional is employed to perform the installation and the residential lot is of average size. That’s fairly standard in North Texas. If more than one side of a house is worked on at the same time, the cost per side declines. Prices for installing a surface drain system typically run between $2,200-$3,800, depending upon how many collection boxes are needed, how complex the job is, and the linear feet of the system. You can select from 4”, 6”, 9” or 12” surface drains. .

Whether you have a commercial property or a house and want to find out what drainage systems cost, speak with a contractor like HD Foundations. A typical French drain is constructed using gravel, and usually costs more than installing a simple surface drainage system because it is more labor intensive. First the trench must be dug, then the pipe is set and covered with ½” of washed river rock. After that, the trench must be back-filled. Keep in mind that dirt can weigh 1-2 tons. In fact, it’s not uncommon to require 1-3 tons of gravel when creating this type of drainage system. This equates to a good deal of time. It’s wise to find out more about what drainage systems cost and then make a determination.

The cost of installing a surface drain generally runs a little less in the Dallas, Fort Worth metroplex because workers don’t have to dig as deep, plus there’s usually no hauling or installing of pea gravel involved. Of course, if a homeowner requires the installation of 7-9 drainage collection boxes instead of 3 or 4, that impacts final price. Also, if tunneling under sidewalks or other areas is required, or the surface system must follow a curve instead of running in a straight line, that affects costs, too.

With surface drains, a connection box is most off set to grade with 4″ flexible PVC pipe (although sometimes rigid pipe is used). Then, the water is re-directed to an outside area such as a street. You may want to study information about choosing a foundation drainage system that’s effective.  The more you know about each type, the better off you’ll be. Both kinds of systems are recognized for working well and helping to prevent drainage problems around house foundations. This includes concrete slabs and pier and beam foundations. Remember: Standing water can lead to vast amounts of deterioration. Since flooding is often an issue in this area, it’s best to take steps to protect your house, school, church or commercial structure.

To be on the safe side, call HD Foundations and has us do a foundation evaluation on your North Texas property. We can tell you exactly what installing a system will cost. To get started, just schedule a free drainage estimate online today.
